Child10 on TV4 Nyhetsmorgon
On October 18, on the EU’s Anti-Trafficking Day – a special day to draw attention to and combat human trafficking, our Secretary-General Jacob was featured on Nyhetsmorgon.
Across Europe, around one in five victims of human trafficking is a child. 8 out of 10 are girls and the most common form of child trafficking is sexual exploitation. We only have statistics on children who are identified as victims of human trafficking. We must remember that globally, not even 1% of those who are trafficked are ever identified as being trafficked.
When asked what a caregiver or person close to a child can do, Jacob replied
“Pay attention to changes in the child’s behavior that cause concern. But above all, talk to the children about this. Most people, especially young teenage girls, have either been asked or know someone who has been asked to share a picture or perform a sexual act for money. This is what it looks like. Adults need to do a much better job of talking to our children and young people about this. Use this video, for example, and watch it with children around you to start the conversation.”
Watch the video for tips on what YOU can do and what is important to consider. Like creating safe spaces, not blaming or focusing on the child’s actions and putting the responsibility where it belongs – with the perpetrator. And spread the feature so that more people can use it as a start to a vital conversation.
