Samuel Astor: “All children deserve to be children”
He is one of Sweden’s most promising actors, but also a voice that does not hesitate to talk about what is difficult. For Samuel Astor, his commitment to ChildX is both personal and political. He knows that real change requires that we dare to see what is happening in the shadows and that together we break the silence.
Why have you chosen to get involved in stopping the sexual exploitation and trafficking of children?
I have always felt a responsibility to use my voice. Sexual exploitation and trafficking of children is one of the most horrific crimes in existence, and it often happens in the shadows, without enough attention.
I believe it is important to educate and raise awareness, because we need to strengthen knowledge and improve support for children in schools, healthcare, psychiatry and social care. Those who encounter children in vulnerable situations must have the right tools to see, understand and act. No human being, especially no child, should have to endure such suffering – and if I can help make a difference, then it goes without saying that I will get involved. All children deserve to be children and have a childhood free from sexual abuse.
What is the best thing about being part of an organization like ChildX?
The best thing about being part of an organization like ChildX is being able to make a real difference. ChildX works concretely to protect vulnerable children, influence legislation and raise awareness in society – and being able to contribute to that feels incredibly meaningful.
I also appreciate the fellowship with others who are passionate about the same thing. We support each other, learn from each other and push issues forward together. No one can solve this alone, but through ChildX we can create real change.
