Musse Hasselvall: “Unfortunately, I probably wouldn’t have listened before, to be honest.”
Musse Hasselvall has long been an outspoken voice on martial arts and masculinity issues – but it wasn’t until he got the facts about children’s vulnerability that the issue of sexual violence against children really took root. Today, he uses his platform to raise the uncomfortable and no longer sees silence as an option.
When did you first hear about ChildX and what sparked your interest in the organization?
I knew about ChildX before, but the “Crime Scene” campaign caught my attention. It drew my attention to three things. That as many as one in five children in Europe are victims of sexual violence, that most perpetrators seek them out on social media or other places where children go, and that in 2022 more abuse material was discovered than ever before. Unfortunately, I probably wouldn’t have listened before, to be honest.
Why have you chosen to get involved in stopping the sexual exploitation and trafficking of children?
Since I do not have children and have not been involved in the issue before, but when I saw statistics and facts about children’s vulnerability and realized how extensive it is, it felt natural that I would be part of this.
How do we get more people involved in the fight against sexual violence against children?
Above all, I think it’s about getting statistics and facts to understand the extent of the problem. Trying to imagine these places we adults may not be a part of where children are sought out. I also think it is important that the commitment comes with requirements, requirements that you should know the conditions for how this is done so that you can convey it to others.
