More on the draft law
The Commission’s 2022 proposal was criticized for its impact on internet users’ privacy, and much of the criticism has since been addressed. Now it is important to be solution-focused.
A bill that ensures that there are no crimes on the platforms will always require some form of content moderation. We cannot let full respect for the right of internet users to have full freedom to do exactly what they want to do leave us with no chance against online child exploitation. But it should of course be done in a way that takes into account all fundamental human rights.
We are in a situation where the EU accounts for over 60% of the reported child sexual abuse material in the world. The situation is urgent. It is of the utmost importance that Sweden and the EU stand up for children’s right to safety on the internet.
